Clearance Drugstore Makeup

I’ve been trying not to buy any more makeup, because I already have a ton that I haven’t used up.  Why waste your money on more if you still have some sitting on your vanity?  Yes, I love my makeup collection and having that variety to pick from day to day is awesome, but I don’t actually wear makeup every day.  And makeup does expire.  So what I’m doing instead is trying to use it all up.  It’s like cleaning out your fridge.  Are you actually going to go to the grocery store to buy more food when you already have a bunch of fruits and vegetables that are going to go bad soon?

Don’t get me wrong.  I’m not hating on those who have a giant makeup collection.  I aspire to be like you one day, no lie.  But right now, I’m satisfied with the amount of makeup I have.

Except, I go crazy for clearances.

Whether it’s for stuff I need or just stuff I want, I love clearances.  I can’t really control myself.  It all started when I saw this eyeshadow primer on clearance for $2 at Target.  Um… if you don’t know, I’ve never used eyeshadow primer before and my eye makeup creases like it’s nobody’s business.  The problem is, it is my business and I don’t like it.  I did eventually get a primer a couple of months ago, but my eye makeup still creased as if I didn’t put any primer on.  So when I saw this eyeshadow primer on clearance, I had to try it out myself.

As I was walking down the isle, I started to see more clearance tags and got a little carried away.  So I thought, why not do a blog post on these items?  Test them out for the day and let you all know what I think of them.  There’s not much to lose, these items were on clearance after all.

Where do I begin?

Almay Smart Shade CC Luminous Primer

I was a bit hesitant to get this at first because it’s pink?  I currently use a green primer because my cheeks are constantly blushing, so to add more pink on pink sounded kind of counter intuitive.  But hey, I was running out of my current primer and needed a new one so why not try this one out?  It’s SPF 15 to protect from the sun and let me just say – it smells and feels like sunscreen.  I’m not even joking.  You know the smell.

For my first impression, I’m not the biggest fan.  It didn’t make my face pink, but it did make it more pale.  Also, when I flipped open the drug facts label, it said “Purpose: Sunscreen.”  So there you have it, it’s sunscreen for your face!

Maybelline Masterprime

I got this eyeshadow primer because I really want a primer that will work.  Since it was only $2.78, I thought I might as well give it a try.  Because what if it actually does work?  That would be awesome.

I wasn’t sure how I felt getting this primer because it is shiny.  It’s supposed to “illuminate” your eye makeup.  I would have prefer the non-shiny one, but that one wasn’t on clearance.

First impression, I would say it’s good overall.  The application was easy; I love the shine; and I think it works well with shimmery eyeshadows.  Surprisingly, it doesn’t look too over the top sparkly.

Maybelline EyeStudio in Copper Chic

I have to say, I really love the colors in this palette.  Also, the pigmentation is perfect.  In my opinion, it’s not too pigmented or not pigmented enough.  It’s the perfect amount to build on if you really needed to.  The colors also blended well with one another.  I used the darkest shade for my lower lash line, and I thought it came out pretty well.

For my first impression, I love this little palette and the copper shade is my favorite.

Maybelline Masterduo in Bronzed Shimmer

I wasn’t going to get an eyeliner because I really suck at putting them on.  But I read the packaging on this eyeliner and found out there’s this disc on the tip of the applicator to help with getting the perfect liner.  I thought it was actually a pretty neat idea so I decided to give it a try.  The applicator was actually a little harder than I thought it was going to be.  The tip is still a sponge so if you press too hard, you’re going to get a thicker line no matter what.  The eyeliner also did not come out as a “bronzed shimmer” as the packaging said.  It didn’t look shiny while applying it, and it didn’t look shiny when I was done applying it.  This is actually a plus for me because I didn’t want a shiny eyeliner to begin with.

First impression, good!  I think once I get a hang of the applicator it should be a lot easier to apply.  But to be honest, I don’t see this as becoming one of my favorite liquid eyeliners.

Rimmel Brown This Way

When I first put this on, it made my eyebrow a lot lighter than they actually are, but that has nothing to do with the product itself.  That has to do with me buying the wrong shade.  I bought this eyebrow gel in medium brown when I’m actually a darker brown.  Although, once I had both my eyebrows done, it wasn’t that noticeable.  The lighter ends on my hair might have helped it a little bit.  Moving on to the applicator, it was actually pretty efficient for me.  This gel isn’t really for shaping, it’s more for a naturally fuller look.  The eyebrow wand I use now has a small skinny applicator that takes a while for me to get the product on my brows.  This applicator is a lot thicker and it is literally the easiest application process.  All you have to do is groom your eyebrows.

First impression, love it!  Maybe next time I’ll actually get one in the right shade.

e.l.f. Moisturizing Lipstick in Red Carpet

Okay, I really don’t like this lipstick.  I wasn’t a fan of the shade.  It was a lot more pink than red.  It is supposed to be a moisturizing lipstick, but after 30 minutes it felt really dry.  What I did like about it was that there wasn’t any really obvious crease lines when I first applied it.  After I ate a sandwich, sadly, the lipstick faded away and all that was left was the lipstick in the crease lines.

First impression, very very poor.  I feel bad for saying this because I’m a huge fan of e.l.f.’s matte lipsticks, but this moisturizing lipstick is not my favorite.

And there you have it!  Those were the six products I bought from Target that were on clearance, and here is me trying them all out.

This is me without makeup.

This is me with makeup.

I used some products that I didn’t get on clearance to finish off the look.

Rimmel Natural Bronzer
Physicians Formula Mineral Wear
Benefit Dandelion Brightening Blush
Garnier Skin Renew Anti-Dark-Circle Eye Roller
Benefit Roller Lash Mascara

And here is how the makeup stood after 6 hours.

I’m happy to say, there was no creasing on my eyelids!  Eyeliner didn’t smudge or wear off.  Eyebrows still look the same as when I first put the gel on.  Only thing that didn’t hold up was the lipstick, but it is lipstick after all.  It won’t last forever.  Just gotta reapply.  Plus, I kind of like the pink-ish tint it left on my lips after most of it was faded away.

Hope this blog post was helpful.  Please excuse the pictures, we had to deal with some terrible indoor lighting that made or pictures look yellow toned and tried to edit out the yellowness later.  The pictures aren’t the best representation of what these products look like in real life, but at least the description should be more helpful.

Until next time!

Yours Truly,

Sally Hyroad
